COLMAR, PA —From the humble beginnings of a premium lube technician straight out of college, to becoming a business owner with two-and-a-half decades of industry experience under his belt, Chris Michiels has run the gamut of the premium lube industry. But it was only seven short years ago that Michiels became the owner of the Castrol Premium Lube Express in Colmar, Pa.
“Ever since college, I’ve always wanted to be a business owner. 25 years later, here I am! And I wouldn’t do it any differently,” says Michiels.
Michiels remarks that not everyone knows what to expect when they walk into Castrol Premium Lube Express. Some customers come in prepared for the kind of quick lube that one might find at a mechanic or garage, but in reality, it’s much more important than that.
“What we do here is preventative maintenance. This is the stuff that needs to be done in order to keep your car out of the shop. When you see us on a regular basis, your car is going to be in better shape later down the line.”
Unlike an automotive shop, Castrol Premium Lube Expresses main focuses are on your car’s oil, lights, fluids, tire pressure and more. They also offer interior and exterior cleaning for your car and have the ability to do detailing—a combination that’s hard to find.
“A lot of people think you come here and just get your oil changed, but it’s so much more than that. Your vehicle is like your body. If you don’t take care of your teeth, you’ll end up at the dentist. It’s the same thing with your car,“ Michiels explains.
While high quality car maintenance is one of Michiels’ top priorities for his business, it comes in a close second to the customer service and customer experience that they offer.
“Running a business is more than just the actual product you’re selling. It’s the comfort of when someone is in the lounge having a cup of coffee or using our bathrooms—even down to interacting with our employees—we make sure that they’re not going to get that level of service anywhere else.”
Michiels takes pride in the way his business treats those who walk in as people, and not just as customers. His Castrol Premium Lube Express is well lit, kid friendly, comfortable and welcoming.
“I come from a family of entrepreneurs, and I’ve learned this from them: customers pay with their hard earned money. They worked for that money, and when they pay for something, whatever that service is, you want to give them their money’s worth,” Michiels describes.
